Dr. Mackie is a pediatric cardiologist at the Stollery Children’s Hospital in Edmonton and a Professor of Pediatrics at the University of Alberta. His clinical work is focused on general cardiology and echocardiography. His research interests include: (i) the transition from pediatric to adult cardiac care, and how to improve that process for adolescents, their parents, and health care providers; (ii) health services research examining resource utilization among children and adults with congenital heart disease; (iii) outcomes research in general among children and adults with CHD. Dr. Mackie has led clinical trials, observational studies, and systematic reviews. Currently he is funded as co-Principal Applicant by CIHR for two randomized controlled trials, and is a Distinguished Researcher with the Women and Children's Health Research Institute affiliated with the University of Alberta. His knowledge translation efforts including development of written and video-based teaching materials for adolescents transitioning to adult care, and implementation of a nurse-led individualized transition program within the Cardiology clinic at the Stollery.
